Mr. Braswell and Mr. Tepper were supoenaed and came to the hearing accompanied by their attorneys. Both answered a few questions with prepared statements that, upon advice of their attorneys, they would exercise their Fifth Amendment right to refuse to answer questions that might incriminate them. After several such refusals, the committee concluded that further questions would be a waste of time and dismissed the pair. Several observers have commented that Braswell was very thin and looked chronically ill.
